Pres Solih brought positive changes to MDP's frontline, says Siyam

The frontline of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has changed dramatically since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih came to power, Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) 's President Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has said.

Siyam said this while addressing MDA leaders active in Dh. atoll islands at a 'Maahefun' event held at Siyam-owned Vilureef Resort. Vilureef Resort.

MDA has decided to form a coalition with the MDP and back President Solih in the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking at the event, Siyam indirectly criticized MDP's President, Mohamed Nasheed, and his ideology. Siyam said his only dissatisfaction with the MDP is that some of its former leaders made fun of Islam.

"[The MDP] no longer appears to have a definite mocker of Islam [among them]," he said.

Praising President Solih, Siyam said he was a man of excellent character and gentle temperament. He said he was pleased that the MDP had undergone positive changes since President Solih took over the party's powers.

"Truth be told, it is not the entire system that is problematic. Things go wrong because of some people," he said.

Siyam said President Solih was among the few MDP members with whom he had a close relationship during the President's tenure in Parliament. The decision to support President Solih's re-election was based on his good character and the positive things he has been doing for the country, added Siyam.

Siyam encouraged all Maldivian nationals to vote for President Solih in the September elections.
