The Maldives National Party (MNP) will officially present its presidential ticket to the party's presidential candidate on May 5. The announcement was made at the third meeting of the MNP Executive National Council held Monday.
MNP's presidential candidate is the party's President and Dhangethi MP Mohamed Nazim. The party opened application to contest its presidential primary on December 14 last year. Nazim secured the ticket without a primary, as no other candidate had applied to contest the primary.
The party's Executive National Council decided that MNP's Vice President, Hussain Ismail, would lead all the arrangements for the ticket-awarding event.
The main-ruling MDP, PPM, JP, and MNP have so far announced their intention to contest the presidential election. Meanwhile, former Home Minister Umar Naseer has said he would contest the election as an independent candidate.
