Gov't expenditure reaches MVR 10 bln

The government's expenditure thus far this year has reached MVR 10 billion.

According to the Finance Ministry, government expenditure reached MVR 10 billion on March 16. This is a 28 percent increase compared to the same period last year, at which the government expenditure was at MVR 7.8 billion.

According to Finance Ministry's statistics, MVR 2 billion was spent on salaries, allowances, and pensions, while MVR 4 billion was spent on administrative and operating expenses. A further MVR 2.4 billion was spent on development projects under the Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP). Furthermore, MVR 782 million has been spent so far this year to repay loans.

Education Sector - MVR 104 million
National Security and Public Order - MVR 67.6 million
Health Sector - MVR 22.5 million

The state received MVR 7.1 billion in revenue during the period. Eighty percent of revenue -- MVR 5.7 billion -- was tax revenue. Non-tax revenue stood at MVR 1.4 billion during the period.

The government received MVR 5.6 billion in revenue during the same period last year.
