Amr dismissed from STO's MD post, Nizam takes over on interim basis

Hussain Amr has been dismissed as the Managing Director of the State Trading Organization (STO).

Earlier today, the President's Office sent a letter to the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) to remove Amr from office. Following Amr's dismissal, STO's CFO, Mohamed Nizam, has taken over the management of STOC on an interim basis.

On Saturday night, Amr was scheduled to appear on a state media TV program. However, the program was not aired.

Amr campaigned for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's rival candidate, former President Mohamed Nasheed, in MDP's presidential primary earlier this year. Amr had said at the time that he joined Nasheed's campaign after asking President Solih.

Amr also attended a meeting with senior Jumhooree Party leaders last week on behalf of the MDP. However, the MDP has said that the MDP members who met the JP did not meet JP with the consent of the party's leadership.
