Maldives State Shipping (MSS)'s Managing Director Abdulla Saeed (Kosheegey Saeed)'s name has been submitted to the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) to be appointed as the State Trading Organization (STO)'s Managing Director.
Earlier on Sunday, Hussain Amr was sacked as STO's Managing Director at the request of the President's Office. STO is being managed on an interim basis by the company's CFO, Mohamed Nizam.
When asked regarding the nomination to appoint Saeed as STO's new MD, a PCB official said information cannot be disclosed after a name has been submitted to the board. However, if the PCB decides to appoint a nominee to a company's board, the information will be provided, he said.
Saeed served as Cabinet Secretary in former President Mohamed Nasheed's government. Following his resignation from the post in 2011, President Nasheed handed over the management of the Maldives National Shipping Limited (MNSL) office in Singapore to Saeed.
