Practical work has begun under the second phase of the Thilafushi reclamation.
The reclamation work was awarded to Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Pvt, to be completed within 120 days.
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said the work is being carried out in accordance with the Thilafushi Master Plan as part of the government's efforts to address the existing problems in the industrial sector. An area of 20 hectares will be dredged as Thilafushi Phase II.
The HDC is working with the government to build a safe environment for residents in the Male' area.
"We are prioritizing the establishment of modern facilities and infrastructure for most industries in the Maldives," the HDC said.
The HDC has already opened for sale 50 plots of land to be allocated after the dredging of Thilafushi Phase II.
