The Jumhooree Party (JP)'s Leader, Gasim Ibrahim, has filed candidacy papers to contest the party's upcoming presidential primary.
Although part of the current ruling coalition, JP has decided to contest the upcoming presidential election separately and lead a coalition of its own. As such, on March 16, the party opened the opportunity for those interested in contesting the presidential primary to submit their applications. The deadline for submissions expired at 12:00 pm today.
Gasim was the only candidate who applied to contest the election by the deadline. He is, therefore, likely to become the party's presidential candidate by default.
