The Broadcasting Commission of Maldives (Broadcom) has ordered the suspension of the online entertainment platform, Baiskoafu.
Baiskoafu is an online platform that streams movies, drama series, and songs.
The suspension was ordered in a letter signed by Broadcom Secretary General Mariam Zeeniya addressed to Baiskoafu service provider Ecom Exchange MV's Managing Director Mohamed Mirsha. According to the letter, the commission ordered the suspension of Baiskoafu as it considered the Baiskoafu service to be rebroadcasting. Rebroadcasting services in the Maldives can only be provided by licensees, the letter said.
The letter said the Broadcasting Commission decided at its meeting held on 10 April to immediately instruct channels rebroadcasting through Baiskoafu to stop the service.
Earlier this year, Dhiraagu TV also suspended its services due to the Broadcasting Commission rule that only 100 percent domestic-owned companies can obtain rebroadcasting licenses.
