Mafaz arrested again five months post release

Notorious criminal, Mohamed Mafaz, has been arrested once again.

Mafaz, who has been arrested in the past on several serious criminal charges, was most recently arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer. Two others were arrested in connection with the case.

The trio was produced before the Criminal Court on Saturday to decide on their remand. All three were remanded to custody for seven days.

Mafaz has a criminal record for murder, gang fighting, robbery, and threats. Mafaz's arrest comes five months after being cleared of a 2017 murder in which Nadeem Abdul Raheem died in an assault at Male' Terminal Cafe'. The state charged Mafaz with intentional homicide with a sharp object, but the Criminal Court in November last year ruled that the charges could not be proved.

Mafaz had also threatened to kill a police officer while in jail for Nadeem's murder. He was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in prison for the offense.
