The Employment Tribunal has granted its members six months of paid maternity leave.
The extension of maternity leave to employment tribunal members comes after tribunal member Sham'aa Ibrahim expressed concerns on social media over her being ordered to return to work less than two months after giving birth.
Tribunal employees already get six months of paid maternity leave. However, until now, the ease did not extend to tribunal members, who were previously given two months of paid maternity leave.
However, the Employment Tribunal has now amended its rules of conduct to provide for six months of paid maternity leave for female tribunal members.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledged to provide six months of paid maternity leave to female civil servants and one month of paid paternity leave to male civil servants. In fulfillment of President Solih's promise, the relevant rule has been formulated and has been in effect since March 2019.
