Gov't decides to give 'Exclusive Service Benefit' to healthcare professionals

The government has decided to give a special allowance to health workers who do not do extra work elsewhere other than the hospital they are employed at.

Speaking at a press conference held regarding the government's new pay structure for healthcare workers, the Pay Commission's Secretary General, Dr. Mohamed Faizal, said healthcare employees who do not work elsewhere in addition to their official government job are entitled to the "Exclusive Service Benefit." The employee must agree not to practice anywhere else and must agree to assume additional responsibilities at their workplace to be entitled to the allowance.

According to Faizal, sub-specialist medical practitioners to specialist medical practitioners of rank ten, and dentists are eligible to receive the allowance.

3,710 employees in the health sector have received salary increases as per the government's new pay structure. With the raise, a senior registered nurse who previously earned MVR 20,459 with overtime will earn an average of MVR 29,271 without overtime allowance in the coming days. A specialist nurse will earn MVR 41,976.

In addition, a senior medical officer that used to earn an average of MVR 28,727 per month with an overtime allowance will now receive MVR 41,541 per month without the previous overtime allowance. The top category of sub-specialist consultants will receive a salary of MVR 98,137 without overtime allowance.
