The main party in the ruling coalition, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has called for the assailants of Mathiveri MP Hassan Zareer to be brought to justice.
Zareer was attacked while he was sitting inside Habeebee Cafe and Bistro in Male' City early Monday. The attack was reported to the police at 5:08 am.
In a statement issued condemning the attack on Zareer in the strongest terms, MDP called on Maldives Police Service to investigate the case as a serious matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Zareer is still receiving treatment for his injuries at ADK Hospital. Photos of him in hospital with bandages on his head have been circulating on social media.
Although the case is being investigated, no arrests have been made in connection with the case thus far.
