'Did not do anything to infringe on Yameen's rights'

Home Minister Imran Abdullah has said that he had not done anything to violate jailed former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's rights.

The Home Minister's remarks came after the opposing PPM-PNC coalition accused Minister Imran of monitoring Yameen's activities by installing cameras in his prison room. The leader of PNC, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, alleged that cameras were also installed in Yameen's bathroom.

The Home Minister on Tuesday posted a tweet responding to the opposition's claim.

"My conscience does not allow me to do anything that would violate any human rights and dignity of President Yameen," the minister said.

In his tweet, the Home Minister added that Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) 's officers would be aware that President Yameen is the most serviced prisoner in the jail to date.
