Local athlete, Mohamed Mazin, has made history by winning the Maldives a gold medal at the Indian Open Para Athletics Championships in Bangalore, India.
Competing in the 100m T11 category with Hussain Shifaz as his guide, Mazin clocked an impressive time of 16.39 seconds to clinch the top spot in the race. His win not only brings pride to the Maldives but also adds points towards qualifying for the upcoming World Para Athletics Championships in Paris, France, in July and the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, in October.
Mazin previously won a bronze medal in the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG), and he is now looking forward to competing in this year's IOIG with hopes of bringing home another medal for his country.
"I am training hard for the upcoming IOIG tournament, and I am determined to succeed in my efforts to win another medal with god's will," Mazin told AVAS.
