Nasheed urges President Solih's expulsion from MDP

The main-ruling MDP's President and Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, has called for the expulsion of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih from the party.

Nasheed's statement comes amidst ongoing disciplinary actions within the MDP, as its actions committee investigates four parliamentarians for violating the party's whipline. The committee initiated the investigation after the four members signed a no-confidence motion against Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath.

Taking to his unofficial Twitter account, "@anedhivehirajje," Nasheed expressed his concerns about certain constituency presidents allegedly working against MDP candidates under President Solih's instructions during the 2019 Parliamentary election.

In his tweet, Nasheed highlighted that the actions committee failed to address the matter and that he believed it was unfair to investigate the current issues without investigating the previous matter. He emphasized the need to expel President Solih from the party, citing the alleged involvement in directing constituency presidents to favor non-MDP candidates over the party's own candidates.

"In 2019, the President issued instructions to constituency presidents, directing them to exclude MDP candidates from the electoral race and instead support other candidates for parliamentary positions. It is unjust for the actions committee to overlook this matter while investigating the current cases. President Solih must be expelled from the party," he said.

Nasheed's bold stance adds fuel to the ongoing internal dynamics within the MDP, underscoring the complex challenges and differing perspectives within the party's leadership.
