Parliament Speaker and leading Democrats member Mohamed Nasheed has expressed his strong disapproval in the wake of several MPs and ordinary members who had previously switched from the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to The Democrats, now returning to the MDP.
Taking to Twitter to express his frustration, Nasheed said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was shamelessly and fearlessly poaching MPs by using state funds to entice them. He warned President Solih that his actions would yield no positive outcomes but instead expose him.
Nasheed's anger comes while Kulhuhuffushi North MP Yasir Abdul Lateef and Thoddoo MP Hassan Shiyan have recently rejoined the MDP after a short period with The Democrats.
Senior officials of The Democrats also allege that their members are being paid to rejoin the MDP. However, the MDP denies the allegations.
