MDP PG passes resolution to remove Deputy Speaker Eva

The MDP Parliamentary Group has taken the decision to oust Deputy Parliament Speaker Eva Abdulla from her position. The unanimous approval for her removal was granted during a parliamentary group meeting held on Thursday.

Eva Abdulla is being removed from her role as Deputy Speaker due to her letter expressing her departure from the MDP. On Wednesday, Eva, along with 12 other MPs affiliated with MDP President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's dissenting faction, Fikuregge Dhirun, left the party.

To initiate the removal of the Speaker or Deputy-Speaker of Parliament, a motion must be signed by at least one-fourth of the total number of Members of Parliament. With 87 members in the Parliament, the ousting of the Deputy Speaker necessitates the support of 22 members.
