Yameen will emerge victorious in the presidential election: Campaign managers

The PPM-PNC presidential candidate, former President Abdulla Yameen, will win the upcoming presidential election, his campaign managers have said.

Although the PPM-PNC coalition has handed over their presidential ticket to Yameen, he currently faces ineligibility to contest the September election due to his ongoing prison sentence resulting from a money laundering and bribery conviction. His ability to contest the election hinges on a higher court overturning the lower court ruling.

Despite this challenge, PPM-PNC continues to assert that Yameen will contest the presidential election.

Speaking at a conference held Sunday, Yameen's Campaign Manager, Mohamed 'Captain' Ameen, confidently stated that Yameen would contest the election and emerge victorious. Ameen assured that Yameen's name would be included on the ballot paper, and he would assume the presidency upon his victory.

Ameen revealed that the funds necessary for Yameen's campaign had been secured through PPM and that the presidential campaign is scheduled to start after the Eid holidays. He affirmed that there was no division within the PPM-PNC coalition, highlighting a united front in support of Yameen.

“We will kick off election activities after the Eid holidays. The party will announce its policies and manifesto,” he said.

Ameen emphasized that it was not too late to initiate the campaign and stressed that Yameen's campaign would be carried out robustly over the next two months.

President Yameen’s Deputy Campaign Manager, Abdulla Nazim, also spoke at the press conference. He also echoed the conviction that Yameen would come out as the winner in the presidential campaign. He further said President Yameen's trial was politically motivated and said Yameen would engage with the people within the confines of the legal framework when the appropriate time arises.
