The Democrats to seek public opinion on manifesto

The newly emerging political party, The Democrats, has decided to seek public opinion on its manifesto for the upcoming presidential election.

A break-off party of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party, The Democrats had earlier announced its intention to field a candidate for the September presidential election.

The Democrats said they are preparing to put together their manifesto and that meetings are being organized to seek public input on it. In this regard, a meeting has been scheduled for 2030 hrs tonight at Fuvahmulah City Council. The meeting would be attended by the party's founder and Henveiru West MP Hassan Latheef, the party said.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission last Sunday granted permission to hold the party's founding meeting. The party is expected to be officially registered over the next few weeks.
