MIRA collects MVR 2.4 bln in unpaid taxes

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has collected MVR 2.42 billion in unpaid taxes from last year.

According to MIRA's annual report for the past year, a total of MVR 13 billion has been collected in recent years, including MVR 2.42 billion last year, following actions taken against non-compliant taxpayers.

Last year, 20,295 notices were issued to tax evaders, while 31,577 notices were issued for failing to file tax returns. A total of MVR 1.46 billion was recovered through notices, while MVR 864 million was recovered during the dues clearance process.

An additional MVR 94.3 million was recovered through payment reminders, and MVR 1.7 million from account freezes. In addition, MVR 1.2 million was recovered through legal action.
