MVR 3.6 bln collected as revenue in January

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has collected MVR 3.6 billion as revenue in January this year.

The January revenue was 5.7 percent higher than the 2023 figure, and 12.2 percent higher than the January forecast. The increase in revenue was driven by higher collection from corporate income tax, general GST, and bank profit tax.

Income tax was the primary revenue source for the MIRA last month, with collections totaling MVR 1.6 billion. This constitutes 46.6 percent of the total January revenue. GST collection stood at MVR 1.4 billion, accounting for 39.3 percent of revenue.

Meanwhile, Green tax collection stood at MVR 99.6 million, airport development fee at MVR 94.6 million, and departure tax at MVR 92.2 million.

MIRA's revenue last month included $102.7 million received in dollars.
