Driver involved in Hafeez's accident remanded for 15 days

The driver involved in the accident that injured Maldives National University (MNU) lecturer Ali Hafeez in an accident has been remanded into custody.

The accident occurred on June 28 when Ali Hafeez was hit by a speeding motorcycle driven by an unlicensed individual while he was returning home after morning prayers. The collision left Hafeez with severe injuries, and arrangements are currently being made to airlift him abroad for further medical treatment.

On July 4, the 22-year-old motorcyclist was apprehended by authorities. During today's court hearing to determine his remand status, he was ordered to be held in custody for 15 days.

There were earlier rumors that the motorist fled the scene following the accident. However, the police said the man did not flee the scene and had also been injured in the accident.
