The Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and the Netherlands Maritime University College (NMUC) have signed an agreement to enhance maritime education.
The agreement will provide educational opportunities for MPL employees, covering a broad range of programs from foundational courses to college degrees and master's programs. In addition, MPL employees will have the opportunity to participate in additional courses in code operation and maritime fields. The students' expenses will be covered by MPL, and programs will be funded jointly by MPL and NMUC.
MPL's CEO Shahid Ali said the agreement was formulated after studying ways to develop the maritime sector in the Maldives.
Speaking on behalf of NMUC, NMUC's Executive Chairman Rasali said the agreement would unlock many opportunities for the growth of the Maldives' maritime sector.
