Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi arrived in the Maldives on an official visit on Saturday.
Foreign Minister Hayashi was welcomed at the Velana International Airport by the Maldives' State Minister at the Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Khaleel.
Minister Hayashi's visit is at the invitation of the Maldives' Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the visit will include official talks to further strengthen bilateral relations between Maldives and Japan. In addition, agreements on scholarships and assistance to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) will be signed. Japan is also scheduled to sign an agreement on visa facilitation for Maldivian diplomatic and official passport holders.
