Japanese govt hands over list of equipment to be provided to aid counter-terrorism

The government of Japan on Thursday handed over a list of equipment to be provided to aid counter-terrorism efforts.

Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Ms. Keiko Yanai handed over the list to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid at the ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The items are being provided under the Exchange of Notes signed between the Government of Maldives and the Government of Japan in October 2019. The Exchange of Notes was signed following an official visit of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Japan.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Japanese government will extend to the Maldives, a grant of five hundred million Japanese Yen for further promoting the economic and social development of the Maldives under the terms of the Exchange of Notes. This grant will be utilized towards countering terrorism and provide the Aviation Security Command with the necessary equipment to enhance monitoring capabilities of the Command, said the ministry.
