Former President Mohamed Waheed and former Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee have joined the Jumhooree Party (JP).
President Waheed and Shainee signed up for JP at an event held at ADh. Maamigili on Saturday. Their membership forms were received by JP leader and presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim.
President Waheed's decision to align himself with JP follows his departure from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) on August 10th. Dr. Shainee likewise was a former member of PPM before this change.
According to Waheed, the main motivation for him to depart from PPM was his desire to utilize his knowledge and experience to serve the people. Waheed said PPM lacks the nurturing and sincere environment necessary to achieve the objective.
President Waheed had previously formed his own party called the National Alliance Party. However, the party was later dissolved. President Waheed was also previously involved with the main-ruling MDP.
