Will lift dollar withdrawal limits: Dr. Muizzu

The PPM-PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has vowed to eliminate the restriction on dollar withdrawals from bank cards and introduce a special allowance for individuals aged 55 to 65 seeking self-retirement.

Speaking at a campaign rally held at GDh. Thinadhoo on Sunday, the presidential hopeful said that the current limit on dollar withdrawals was a major complaint of the people. Outlining his plan to lift the limit, Muizzu said the issue could be effectively addressed if the people elect him to office. He also vowed to increase the number of dollars in circulation in the economy.

"It can be achieved in phases. We can double the limit in the first three months and then lift the limit altogether," Muizzu said.

Muizzu also vowed to lower the dollar rate in the Maldives and strengthen foreign exchange.

Elaborating on his pledge to provide s[special allowance for self-retirement for people aged between 55 and 65, Dr. Muizzu criticized the current gap between retirement at 55 and allowance eligibility at 65. He pledged to introduce an allowance for individuals retiring between ages 55 and 65, addressing their financial concerns.

With the presidential election just days away, Dr. Muizzu encouraged supporters to campaign without fear of job loss, promising better opportunities. He outlined his goal of establishing a "paperless" government that enables streamlined access to services through online portals.

Muizzu also expressed his commitment to transforming Huvadhu Atoll into a prominent tourism hub.
