Local observer and representative suspended for obstructing foreign observers

The Elections Commission (EC) announced on Wednesday that a local observer and representative have been suspended from their roles for obstructing foreign observers during the first round of the presidential election.

EC said both individuals responsible for obstructing the foreign observer were affiliated with a political party. However, the commission did not disclose the specific political party to which they belonged.

The commission said the two have been suspended from acting as observers, monitors, candidate representatives, and election officials in the second round of the presidential election and the upcoming two major elections.

At a special meeting convened regarding the election, the EC decided to allow the party to appoint another observer and representative in place of the suspended officials.

A video of a local observer insulting and angrily shouting at foreign observers has been circulating on social media.
