Ali Azim chosen as The Democrats' Parliamentary Group Leader

The Democrats has elected Ali Azim as their parliamentary group leader.

The Democrats have 12 members in the parliamentary group, although only three members are officially registered as members of The Democrats. They are Azim, Maafannu North MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, and Madaveli MP Hussain Firushan.

In the Democrats' parliamentary group election held today, all 11 members present voted unanimously to elect various positions. Gadhdhoo MP Ahmed Zahir and Maafannu Central Ibrahim Rasheed were chosen as Deputy Leaders, while Ungoofaaru MP Mohamed Waheed assumed the role of Secretary General of the Parliamentary Group, and Macchangolhi North MP Mohamed Rasheed was selected as the Whip.

The Democrats, led by a group of MDP defectors, contested the presidential election but did not advance to the second round. Their candidate, Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb, came third with 15,839 votes.
