Ex-VP Adeeb denies relocating to Singapore

Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has refuted speculations surrounding his alleged relocation to Singapore, clarifying that he is currently abroad for medical treatment.

Adeeb was in jail and under house arrest since October 2015 in connection with the MMPRC graft until the commutation of his sentence. He was sentenced to 20 years in jail on October 5, 2020. Adeeb left the Maldives on November 16, following the pardon of his jail sentence by then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

While the location where he traveled was unknown at the time, his close associates today revealed he first traveled to Saudi Arabia to perform an Umrah before heading to Singapore and settling there.

However, Adeeb has now taken to social media platform X to counter these rumors. In a post, Adeeb said the rumors were untrue and that he was abroad for medical treatment.

"I will go back to my beloved country. I will live, work, and be buried in the land where I belong," he wrote.

Even while serving his sentence, Adeeb had previously traveled to Singapore for medical reasons, staying there for over a month on a medical furlough.
