Pres announces gov't sponsorship for 50 individuals' Hajj Pilgrimage

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the Government's decision to sponsor the Hajj pilgrimage for 50 individuals this year. He shared this announcement in a press conference held at the President’s Office, following a Cabinet meeting held Tuesday.

It is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Muizzu to sponsor Hajj pilgrimage for 1,000 needy people within the next five years.

At the press conference, President Dr. Muizzu said the decision to sponsor 50 individuals this year marks the commencement of this commitment. He said the number of beneficiaries will vary each year, expressing hope for an increase in the years to come.

The president outlined the selection process for the sponsored pilgrims, stating that the government will follow a predefined policy in selecting the list of beneficiaries from the national registry of individuals below the poverty line.

In addition, he assured transparency in the selection process by publishing the criteria and procedure in the Government gazette. President Dr Muizzu conveyed optimism for the Hajj sponsorship initiative to become a lasting commitment, continuing its impact beyond the span of his five-year term.
