Speaker proposes further extension of current parliamentary session

The Parliament Speaker has proposed to extend the current Parliament session until December 18.

On November 27, the Parliament passed a resolution extending the ongoing session until December 7. As per the extension, the session ends tomorrow.

Opening today's sitting, Speaker Mohamed Aslam said the Parliament has important works to complete during this session, including the budget for next year. While the period of this year's final session has already been extended once, the work remains incomplete, he noted.

Aslam announced that he intends to further extend the session as the Parliament rules stipulate that the budget committee must complete its work and submit a decision on the budget seven days before the end of the current session. He said he would ask for a vote on the extension until December 18 during today's ongoing session.

The two most important matters currently before parliament are the approval of next year's budget and the approval of the new government ministers.
