Former journalist and former Broadcasting Commission Chairman Mohamed Shaheeb has been appointed as the Spokesperson of the President's Office.
Confirming the appointment to AVAS, Shaheeb mentioned that he has assumed the position and commenced work today.
“The President offered me this position, and I accepted it,” he stated when asked about the opportunity.
Since Mohamed Muizzu assumed office on November 17, a spokesperson had not been appointed to the President's Office.
Shaheeb is one of the most experienced journalists in the Maldives. He has also been awarded a national award in the field of Journalism. During President Abdulla Yameen's tenure, Shaheeb served as the Chairman of the Broadcasting Commission, where he took action against several TV stations and imposed hefty fines. He resigned from the post after the Independent Institutions Committee of the Parliament decided to remove him as the Chairman.
