Administration did not seek salary increases for Pres and Vice Pres: Gov't

The Chief Spokesperson at the President's Office, Mohamed Shahyb has said the Parliament's Pubic Finance Committee decided to increase the salaries of the highest officials of the state without consultation with the government, aiming to provoke discord and animosity.

The Public Finance Committee, on Tuesday, approved salary hikes for various officials, including members of parliament, the President, Vice President, Cabinet ministers, heads of government-owned companies, judges, mayors, and councilors.

Regarding the decision, Shahyb clarified that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu did not submit any requests to the Parliament regarding salary adjustments, and emphasized that the committee's decision did not align with the President's position.

'We believe such a sensitive decision by a committee with a large majority of the MDP MPs, without even consulting the top government officials, is intended to create hatred in the hearts of the people against the government," Shahyb said.
