The reconstruction of the Male' Hiyaa and Sinamale' flats in Male' and Villimale' will commence in February. The announcement was made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at the Kangathi Awards ceremony held Wednesday.
Expressing deep concern about the deteriorating condition of the two buildings, the President emphasized his commitment to rebuild them without imposing financial burdens on the residents. He assured the people living in these flats that solutions would be provided in alignment with established policies, ensuring ease for the residents.
Reiterating his dedication to providing housing for all citizens within the five-year term, President Muizzu stated his vision of seeing Maldivians living comfortably in beautiful homes. He emphasized putting an end to the practice of citizens having to beg for housing every five years and the plight of Maldivians living in substandard conditions.
"By the end of these five years, no Maldivian citizen will have to suffer from homelessness. I will bring a permanent end to the practice of having to beg politicians for housing every five years, to this situation of Maldivians living in meager quarters," he said.
President Muizzu also shared insights into the housing policies of the government. The planned land reclamation in RasMale' and Gulheefalhu, along with additional dredging in Giraavaru Falhu and Hulhumale', is aimed at offering a permanent solution to the longstanding housing challenges faced by the people in the Greater Male' Area, he said.
