Aa Saharaa cemetery development reassigned to new company

The City Council has reassigned the development of the Aa Saharaa cemetery in Male' to a new company, following the cancellation of the previous contract awarded to PNP Maldives.

The initial contract, valued at MVR 4.9 million with a two-month completion period, was granted to PNP Maldives to increase the space designated for male and female prayer congregations at the cemetery's mosque, establish ablution areas exclusively for women and also build a waiting area in the cemetery. However, the contract was terminated after the company failed to carry out the work as agreed within the agreed period, even with an extension.

PNP Maldives had been paid 53 percent of the entire project cost, equivalent to MVR 3.6 million when the project was terminated. This includes MVR 2.6 million disbursed as a 15 percent advance.
