Inguraidhoo MP Hassan 'Hassantey' Ahmed has joined the ruling Peoples' National Congress (PNC).
MP Hassan announced his membership on social media X on Saturday night. According to his post, his alignment is now with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He expressed his dedication to serving the PNC with sincerity and honesty.
This move comes after the enrollment of thirteen MDP MPs into the PNC on December 28, which initially brought the PNC's parliamentary representation to 15, making it the minority party. However, with MP Hassan's membership, the PNC's parliamentary strength has now increased to 16 members. When considering the two members representing PNC's sister party, PPM, their total number has reached 18.
The current number of MDP members in Parliament has now reduced to 42.
