Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed the country's readiness for the swift implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between China and Maldives.
Opening the 'Invest Maldives' business forum in Fuzhou, China, on Tuesday, President Dr. Muizzu emphasized that the FTA symbolizes the strong ties between the two nations.
"The FTA’s aim to boost bilateral trade and investments, especially increasing our export of fish products to China is a key priority for us through the FTA. My government is committed to ensuring quick implementation of the agreement," he said.
President Dr. Muizzu highlighted the anticipated economic benefits through the recently established Maldives Industrial Development Freezone for transshipment and re-export, President Dr. Muizzu said the zone, operated as a master developer, aims to generate additional income for the country and make strategic investments to ensure a stable standard of living for citizens.
President Dr. Muizzu also underscored the significance of the Ras Male' project, set to dredge over 1,000 hectares of land in the Fushifdhiggaru Falhi over the next eight months. He noted that the project aims to provide housing for 325,000 people, complete with well-rounded infrastructure services and commercial opportunities.
The Maldives and China decided to establish a Free Trade Agreement between both countries in December 2014.
