Construction and Infrastructure Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mutthalib has refuted assertions made by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who claimed that several projects initiated by the previous government had been stopped by the current administration.
At a rally held at Sultan Park on Thursday night, President Solih said several projects aimed at providing essential services in the atolls had been discontinued with the change in government.
Responding to the allegations, Minister Mutthalib clarified that when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government assumed office on November 17, 65 projects managed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and Road Development Company (RDC) were at a standstill. He explained that of these, 32 projects have now been resumed under the new administration. However, there are 83 projects contracted by the previous government to these two companies of which the work is yet to commence, he noted.
The minister said in addition to these projects, other projects contracted to entities such as FENAKA, MWSC, and some private companies are also pending commencement. The current administration aims to initiate all projects as soon as possible, he assured.
