Gov't initiates repatriation efforts for Maldivians stranded in Syria

The government has started the process of repatriating Maldivians stranded in Syria.

The previous government had disclosed that more than 100 Maldivians had traveled to Syria to participate in the conflict, with approximately 70 of them having lost their lives.

The Homeland Security Ministry of the new administration and the police are working to bring back Maldivians who traveled to Syria to take part in its civil war. A senior government official said those displaced in Syria are women and their children. According to the government, those repatriated will be rehabilitated at the National Reintegration Center in K. Himmafushi before their eventual release into society.
