The opposing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has successfully collected the necessary signatures to initiate a no-confidence motion against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
According to the Constitution, the President can be removed from office with a two-thirds majority vote in Parliament.
Speaking to AVAS, an MDP parliamentary group member confirmed the decision to pursue a no-confidence motion against President Muizzu. He said the decision was made at the party's parliamentary group meeting held today. He confirmed that the signatures required to submit the matter to parliament have been received.
“The number of signatures required to submit the bill to parliament has been reached,” he said.
The no-confidence motion against President Dr. Muizzu has been moved after the PPM-PNC blocked the parliamentary session held yesterday to approve the ministers appointed by the President.
