The three ministers whose approval was denied by the Parliament on Monday - Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidhar, and Attorney General Ahmed Usham - have been re-appointed to their respective positions.
The re-appointment ceremony took place at the President's Office on Monday night, with Supreme Court Justice Husnu-al-Suood administering the oath of office.
The three ministers' names will have to be submitted to parliament once again for approval within seven days from their date of re-appointment.
The names of the initial cabinet formed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who took office on November 17, were sent to parliament for approval on November 18 last year. However, more than two months later, the opposition MDP-majority parliament rejected the three ministers without providing any specific reasons. The Democrats, who aligned with the MDP, also voted against the approval of these ministers.
The ruling Progressive Congress (PNC) described the parliament's refusal to approve the members of the Cabinet formed to implement the policies of a government as an obstacle to the government's efforts for the benefit of the people.
