Pres Dr.Muizzu assures economic reforms to address dollar shortages

The challenges in obtaining US dollars will be resolved by the economic reforms initiated by the government, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said.

On today's episode of "The President's Answer" series, an initiative by the President's Office to directly address public queries on social media, President Muizzu was asked regarding his pledge to establish a USD ATM in tourism-thriving Maafushi island, and the commencement of the island's dredging project. He was also asked regarding his plans to solve the US Dollar crisis faced by the Maldives.

In his answer, the President acknowledged that an ATM should be installed in Maafushi as soon as possible, hopefully within this year. The President said he would consult with the Bank of Maldives to facilitate the installation of the ATM.

Regarding the dredging project, the President said it was difficult to say the exact date the project would commence. However, he reiterated his dedication to fulfilling his pledges and assured the pledge would be realized. The president said it was not his policy to delay or postpone projects that would directly benefit the people until the final year of his term.

Addressing dollar constraints, the president said upcoming economic reforms and economic expansions would address the challenges and provide a solution.

"Hopefully, when significant projects start and investments start to increase, the US dollar will be prosperous," he said.
