The Transport Ministry has announced its intention to verify the authenticity of the garages allocated for motor vehicles during the registration process.
According to Section 4(d) of the Land Motor Vehicle Registration Rules, motor vehicles with more than two wheels may be registered only if a letter is provided stating that the vehicle has a designated garage and that the owner of the garage has no objection to parking the vehicle in the garage. A copy of the garage owner's ID card and the garage's registration has to be submitted along with the letter.
The ministry said it has been receiving complaints that vehicles are being registered in garages without the knowledge of the garage owners. Therefore, the ministry will take the necessary steps to address the issue. In this regard, henceforth, the ministry will verify the authenticity of the garage owner’s no-objection letter and ensure that the proposed garage meets the requirements to park the vehicle.
