Maldives welcomes over 466,000 tourists in early 2024

More than 466,000 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year.

According to the statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, a total of 466,273 tourists arrived in the country as of March 9. This reflects an increase of 61,375 tourists -- 15.2 percent -- from the 404,898 visitors in the same period last year.

Among the key contributors to this surge, China stands out with the highest influx of tourists, comprising 12 percent of total arrivals, amounting to 56,181 visitors. Following closely behind are tourists from Russia, totaling 44,222, while Italy and the UK follow behind with 42,770 and 40,448 arrivals, respectively.

Other notable contributors include Germany with 29,196 visitors and India with 28,298 arrivals. Additionally, significant numbers of tourists arrived from France with 18,365 tourists, the United States with 14,405 arrivals, Poland with 11,078 tourists, and Switzerland with 10,120 arrivals.
