Groundbreaking ceremony launches Hankede Integrated Tourism Development Project in Addu City

The foundation stone of the Hankede Integrated Tourism Development Project in Addu City has been laid.

The foundation stone of the project was laid at a groundbreaking ceremony held in Addu City on Monday. The ceremony was graced by Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan.

The Hankede Integrated Tourism Development Project, worth US$142.9 million, aims to add 2,082 beds to tourism in Addu City. The project includes the construction of luxury apartments and beach villas.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ihsan said the project will generate both direct and indirect jobs and contribute to the economic growth and prosperity in the region.

The last government also signed an agreement with China Merchant Bank to carry out the Hankede project. China National Electrical Engineering Company was awarded the contract to develop the Hankede Integrated Tourism concept.
