MIRA recovers MVR 797.8 mln in state dues

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has recovered MVR 797.8 million owed to the state during the first quarter of this year.

According to MIRA's first quarter figures, MVR 488.8 million was collected through dunning, a process of methodically communicating with customers to ensure the collection of accounts receivable. While MVR 227.9 million was collected from dues clearance, MVR 43.3 million was recovered through account freezing. An additional MVR 12.5 million was recovered through reminders, MIRA said.

According to the MIRA, during this period, final notices were issued to 9,244 persons for non-filing of tax returns and 5,860 persons for non-payment of taxes. In addition, 231 persons have been given the opportunity to pay their taxes in installments, amounting to MVR 502 million.
