Pres Dr. Muizzu congratulates Fathimath Dheema Ali's family on Olympic qualification

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended his congratulations to the family of Fathimath Dheema Ali, who has made history by becoming the first Maldivian athlete to qualify for the International Olympics that will be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

During a phone conversation with Dheema's family on Wednesday, the President expressed his enthusiasm that a local athlete had, for the first time, won an Olympic qualifying match and earned a coveted spot in the games. He remarked on the outstanding accomplishment of a young Maldivian athlete playing against the top table tennis players in the South Asian region as a matter of great pride for the entire nation.

President Dr Muizzu praised Dheema's remarkable accomplishments at her young age and her tenacity in sharpening her athletic abilities as inspirations. He encouraged Dheema to move forward with such resolve and determination.

The President also assured Dheema of his full support for this opportunity to compete in the Olympics and achieve great success. He emphasized her achievement as a moment of pride for the entire country in the international sporting arena.

Fathimath Dheema Ali will become the Maldives' first athlete to qualify for the Olympics by winning the Olympic Qualifying Table Tennis Final in the South Asian region, as well as the first Maldivian player to play table tennis in the Olympics.
