Maldives sees 11 percent increase in tourist arrivals

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives so far this year has increased by 11 percent compared to the same period last year.

A total of 850,971 tourists visited the Maldives as of Sunday, according to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry. This is an increase of 85,837 tourists compared to 765,134 tourists that visited during the same period last year.

China remains the largest tourist market for the Maldives, with 95,263 arrivals, accounting for 11 percent of the total. Russia follows with 85,873 tourists, the UK with 80,962, and Italy with 73,709.

The Tourism Ministry reports that an average of over 6,000 tourists visit the Maldives daily. The country currently boasts 176 resorts, 854 guesthouses, 148 safari vessels, and 15 hotels.
