MP Falah appointed as PNC's new Parliamentary Group Leader

The ruling Peoples' National Congress (PNC) has appointed Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah as the leader of its new parliamentary group for the 20th Parliament. This decision was proposed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during a meeting at the presidential residence, Muleeaage, on Wednesday. The meeting included PNC MPs, ministers, heads of government companies, and PNC and PPM officials.

PNC's new PG leader Falaah was a member of the 18th Parliament for the Inguraidhoo constituency.

Additionally, Baarashu MP Ibrahim Sujau was nominated as the party's Senior Deputy Leader, while Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Tariq, Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid, and Villimale MP Mohamed Ismail were proposed for Deputy Leader positions. Sujau, Shahid, and Ismail served in the 18th Parliament, while Tariq has experience in both the 18th and 19th Parliaments.

With Falah's appointment as the PNC parliamentary group leader, he will become the majority leader of the 20th Parliament, set to be sworn in on May 28. Meanwhile, the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s parliamentary group leader will assume the role of minority leader.

President Dr. Muizzu also proposed Fonadhoo MP-elect Abdul Raheem Abdulla as Parliament Speaker and MP Ahmed Nazim as Deputy Speaker. These positions will be filled by a secret ballot among the newly sworn-in members of the 20th Parliament on May 28.
